Pat McGrath for makeup and Guido for hair at Christian Dior, aka the Power Couple of runway beauty.
Woke up exhausted, so Laura Mercier and Christian Dior to the rescue.
Hey, look, I’m smiling (whaaaat?)
Off to work. Dior shadow palette in Petal Shine is your makeup equivalent of CPR.
Which means fresh makeup looks for me (and you) to drool all over. But, my dear friend Kianna reminded me over drinks tonight that the Spring Couture shows just started, and that I should be scoping out the looks. Let’s discuss some of the recents:

The look at Christian Dior was scalding hot red lips paired with a bright lid and geometric cat eyes. Now, normally I would be all over this look. But, it was far too reminiscent of the Spring 2011 Ready To Wear show from Dior, which showcased this almost identical look:

The RTW makeup look was a toned down version of bright lids, bright lips, strong brows, retro liner. Because of this, I’m rather unimpressed by the couture look, even though it is stunning.
Now, onto Armani Prive:

Good god. Purple lipstick. When will I not love grape lips? When will purple be the new red? I’ve been trying to get people into it, but everyone is sort of put off by it, or intrigued but refuse to try it for themselves. I HOWEVER CAMPAIGN ON and I am so excited by this Armani Prive look. The gem complements the metallic, elegant space-age look to the couture show, but that purple lip is perfection. I will wear my purple lipstick in honor of this. And I am particularly jealous of this lip because it’s most likely a hand-mixed color — it’s really hard to find a true purple or a true grape that is opaque. MAC sometimes comes through, but it’s never quite what I need. I’ll stick with my Make Up Forever purple lipstick and keep my fingers crossed.

Conceptual, futuristic (yet with a touch of the elegant past), moody yet stunningly beautiful makeup at Dior. I simply love this look.
Spent $60 on an eyeshadow palette a few weeks ago. If that doesn’t say impulsive (I had no knowledge of the palette before looking at it at the Dior counter), I don’t know what does. While my online banking statement kind of wants to slap me, my makeup looks aren’t complaining.

The palette is Dior’s 5-color eyeshadow palette in Petal Shine. The shadows are rich, velvety and go on smoothly (but why are they still putting those cheap applicator tools in the package? Come on Dior, just because it says a designer name on it doesn’t make it anymore useful than a Q-Tip). The colors have pink, bronze, silver and purple undertones and could be flattering on any skin tone. I’ve worn the shadows, mixing and matching for different looks, during the holidays and received a few compliments. I’m not encouraging you to go drop some serious $ on eyeshadow, but if you’ve got money to spend and are looking for a beautiful palette, this is a great option.
Now I just need to deal with my constant fear that I’m going to drop and shatter the shadows…nightmare status.
