Anonymous asked: Is it inherent for creative, left-brained individuals to be a bit overly obsessive?
I think that creative individuals always possess a certain level of obsession, especially when it comes to their work. Obsession is often what breeds great art or great success. Or, in a “what came first” sort of thought experiment, perhaps obsessive individuals tend towards creativity because it funnels their obsession into a specific outlet? I don’t know. But I will say this: I have never met a successful artist who is not obsessive over their work.
(I’ll throw in there that I’m an obsessive individual but not in the “everything needs to be tidy” sort of way. In fact, I’m rather messy. I just am obsessive when it comes to my thoughts. An ex used to make fun of me when he’d see my face glaze over as I’d start tracking ideas in my head, forming connections and mapping out writing to be put on paper or screen later. “You’re overthinking again, aren’t you?” he’d say. I was. And though those obsessive thought patterns have caused me pain, they’ve also led to some of the deepest moments in my writing. Win some lose some.)
